Hiking trails are many in the region. Several choices are available to you: cycle route along the Nivernais Canal or stroll through the vineyard. Let’s go for a hike in the vineyards “circuit des Gueux”. The route takes you to the heart of the vineyard and takes a section of the road to Saint Jacques de Compostelle on the path from Namur to Vézelay by the GR 654. During your next stay you can test another route that passes through the territory by the RP 51.
Go to the flea market of the Prieuré in Chichée. This peaceful place was once a priory. It is a real cave of Alibaba and Françoise, the guardian of the place will unearth you the object of your dreams.
If you have chosen to stay in a camping-car an area developed in Pontigny will welcome you in a closed, quiet, flowery, ideally located in the center of the village and near the Abbey of Pontigny the largest Cistercian abbey of Europe!
After a busy day it’s time to eat. Whether in Pontigny or a few kilometres away in Ligny-le-Châtel “Au Relais Saint-Vincent”, you will appreciate the delicious gourmet specialties of the region.
On the way to visit the Abbey of Pontigny. You can discover the places to visit freely or choose to make a guided tour with the association Les Amis de Pontigny. Take a walk through the gardens where only the singing of birds breaks the soothing silence that reigns here. The purity of the stone and the austerity of the place perfectly illustrate the Cistercian order.
A few steps from here, you can visit another Cistercian site, the Grange de Beauvais in Venouse.
Take a gourmet break at the Hostellerie de la Fontaine in Accolay. The chef’s cooking is bourguignonne and gastronomic and in respect of seasonal produce. Stroll through the streets of the charming village of Accolay or along the Nivernais canal.
In an exceptional green setting, on the edge of the Cure, discover the Cistercian Abbey of Reigny. It was founded in 1128 and was very powerful and prosperous in the Middle Ages. A must see: its exceptional refectory of the fourteenth century (there are only three examples in France!).
Classified as a national nature reserve, the Bois du Parc offers diversity in terms of flora, fauna and geology. A discovery trail allows you to discover all this exceptional diversity and enjoy beautiful landscapes.
From the terrace of Mailly-le-Château give yourself a last moment of relaxation before your return by offering you a superb panoramic view of the loops of the Yonne and the Nivernais Canal.
